On November 5, 2024, the US will hold presidential elections. Vice President Kamala Harris is running for president instead of incumbent President Joe Biden on the Democratic side. During a speech in the capital of North Carolina, Kamala Harris announced that her top priority will be to combat rising prices of the most important goods for the middle class, such as food and housing.
Kamala Harris and Her Economic Plan
Kamala Harris said in a speech in North Carolina’s Capitol that her top priority would be to combat rising prices of essential goods for the middle class, such as food and housing, suggesting that the rise in food prices was partly due to corporate greed that took advantage of the pandemic turmoil to artificially drive up prices.
– We all know that prices went up during the pandemic when supply chains failed. But supply chains have improved now and prices are still too high – Harris said, quoted by Bankier.pl.
In her first speech presenting her campaign platform, the US Vice President outlined a number of ideas that she would like to implement during her first 100 days as president.
One of the most controversial proposals is a "food price gouging ban" by corporations. Such a law would set rules to prevent "unfair" price gouging. Harris announced that her plan includes "punishments for opportunistic companies that exploit crises and break the rules."
