Is Temu stealing away your customers? For many, the Chinese marketplace is the latest threat in e-commerce land, but who is actually using the platform? And how fast is the digital dragon really growing?
Consumers of all ages
To gauge the true impact of newcomers like Temu, FoxIntelligence surveyed the market a year after its launch in France. The Chinese platform first launched there in April 2023. The results not only tell a lot about the Temu customer, but also about its competition and general trends in e-commerce.
For instance, after only four months, Temu has already overtaken one of its main competitors, Shein, in France. One year after its launch, Temu has a penetration rate of 11.9% and a customer base almost as large as Shein’s. This high penetration rate translates into a loyal customer base, with an average annual spend of 112.5 euros per consumer. In addition, Temu customers make an average of 3.3 purchases per year. In comparison, at Shein, the average spend is 86.2 euros per consumer.
