Instacart electronic shelf-label software now in Schnucks stores

Instacart’s Carrot Tag electronic shelf-label software is being rolled out chainwide at Schnuck Markets grocery stores, the San Francisco-based tech company announced Monday.

The software integrates with Schnucks’ ESL hardware provider Aperion. Instacart’s digital price tags software was piloted at Schnuck Markets in 2022, and the midwest grocer also began deploying its smart cart technology, known as Caper Carts, at Schnuck Markets stores in 2023

The Carrot Tags “pick to light” function allows “Instacart shoppers to activate items from their picking list within the Instacart Shopper App for easier and more accurate order fulfillment,” the company said.

“Because Schnucks is using pick to light, we’re seeing an increase in found rates, which in turn provides higher order quality and customer satisfaction,” David McIntosh, VP and GM of Connected Stores at Instacart, said in the press release. “Schnucks has long served as a leading-edge partner for Instacart, especially when it comes to adopting our Connected Stores technologies like Caper Carts and Eversight.”

Instacart noted that the Carrot Tags will soon work in conjunction with its Caper Carts at the stores to assist customers in finding items on the shelf.

Schnucks operates 114 stores across Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

* This story was updated on 7/30/2024 to note that the software integrates with Aperion hardware.
