- In this article you will learn what the prices of grain and rapeseed are on August 9, 2024.
- Grain purchases are stable. Prices have not changed, only rapeseed has gone up.
- Wet corn price lists range from PLN 450 to PLN 510 per tonne.
The supply of grain in purchases is very low, because the grain harvest is almost over. Summaries are underway, and prices tend to remain at a similar level, i.e. still low. However, as the Opole Chamber of Agriculture has noticed, despite these low grain prices, feed prices are going up. They are demanding an inspection by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. We wrote an extensive article on this topic on farmer.pl below. In the meantime, corn producers are slowly thinking about the silage harvest and are also intensively looking for grain prices, especially wet grain with 30% moisture. Purchase companies increasingly often have this item in their price lists, even though, for obvious reasons, the purchase has not yet started, because it is definitely too early for the harvest. Nevertheless, the price of wet corn in companies has increased and is between PLN 450 and PLN 510 per ton (this year's harvest). Dry corn from old harvests is valued at a maximum of PLN 810.
What's going on in the world? – Analytical company Argus has published estimates of soft wheat production in France at 25.17 million tons. This means a decrease of 10 million tons in one year and a result worse by over 1/4 compared to the 5-year average. Lower soft wheat harvests were last recorded in 1983. The situation is worse than in 2016, when a very low result was recorded – 27.6 million tons. According to Argus Media, wheat yields in 2024 will amount to 59.33 q/ha, which means a decrease of 18.7% compared to the five-year average. This is more than in 2016, which was 53.74 q/ha. However, this year the area has also decreased due to bad weather since the beginning of sowing – says Andrzej Bąk from eWGT. Interestingly, after the announcement of a record-breaking tender for the purchase of wheat in Egypt, grain prices on the exchanges rose slightly, but not for long. – EU wheat rebounded slightly on Thursday as part of the sideways trend that has been ongoing in recent days – slightly below EUR 220/t. EU wheat prices are not rising for now, despite the disastrous harvest in France and poor harvests across the EU. The poor climatic conditions in Europe this year are in contrast to the favourable weather in the United States, where the harvest of all three main wheat producers will be exceptionally good this year. At the same time, there is still strong competition on the international wheat market from Russian and Ukrainian suppliers. According to the analytical company Strategie Grains, the harvest in the EU is currently expected to amount to 116.5 million tonnes, which is 5% less than estimated a month ago. Analysts say that this is mainly due to the smaller harvest in France, which suffered from excessive rainfall – informs eWGT.
