The international public movement "Supreme Council of Ossetians" sent an appeal to the Head of the Republic of North Ossetia Sergei Menyailo with a request to initiate the registration of the brands "Ossetian Pies", "Ossetian Cheese" and "Ossetian Beer" in Rospatent. This was reported by RBC , citing the movement's Telegram channel .

The activists explained this necessity by “a number of high-profile cases of the production of surrogates” that are passed off as Ossetian pies, Ossetian cheese and Ossetian beer.
Beer has become the most popular alcoholic drink in Russia since 2000. Its consumption has grown more than threefold, from 16.5 liters (in 1975) to 52.2 liters (in 2022) per capita. The peak of beer consumption occurred in 2010 – 70.3 liters per capita.
