The head of Rosselkhoznadzor explained the reduction in imports as a “cat’s resentment” at the dishonest composition of foreign feed, reports RBC .

Based on the results of the first half of 2024, imports of pet food into Russia decreased by 40% in annual terms. According to the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert , the reduction in supplies is primarily due to the increase in feed production by domestic companies.
“ We have a sufficient number of authorized companies that supply their feed to our market. We don’t mind Monge or Hill’s, but if the package says “duck” and there’s no duck, our cats get offended ,” the head of the department commented.
Rosselkhoznadzor suspended supplies of the Italian premium pet food brand Monge & CSpa in May 2023 due to the presence of undeclared genetically modified components. For the same reason, the agency suspended supplies to another Italian feed manufacturer, Hill's, in February 2024.
