Important changes in ZUS are coming into effect today. You can lose money due to carelessness
Pensions and retirement benefits can be supplemented, but there are certain limits. Their amount depends directly on the average salary, which is always lower in the second quarter than in the first. In 2024, it decreased by PLN 108.97
– The income thresholds that affect the reduction or suspension of benefits change every three months: in March, June, September and December. Currently announced in the Communique of the President of the Social Insurance Institution, they will be valid from September to November 2024. They should be checked by people earning extra money who are on disability pension or early retirement – ZUS spokesman Paweł Żebrowski told PAP.
He noted that the limits will be lower from September . This is due to the reduction in the average monthly salary for the second quarter of 2024 compared to the national salary applicable in the first quarter of 2024.
– Earnings up to PLN 5,626.90 gross per month will not affect the reduction of the pension or disability pension. If they are higher than PLN 10,450.00 gross, ZUS may suspend the payment of the benefit . On the other hand, obtaining monthly incomes in the range of PLN 5,626.90 to PLN 10,450.00 gross will result in a reduction of the benefit paid by the amount exceeded , but not more than the amount of the maximum reduction – explained Żebrowski.
He added that the amount of the maximum reduction is different for individual benefits, and from March 2024 to the end of February 2025 it is PLN 890.63 for retirement and disability pensions for total incapacity for work, PLN 668.01 for partial incapacity for work, and PLN 757.08 for family pension for one person.

Not all retirees who earn extra money need to be careful about the limits
Pensioners who have already reached the general retirement age (60 for women and 65 for men) do not have to worry about the amount of their income. They can earn extra money without any restrictions , without worrying that ZUS will suspend or reduce their pension or disability pension.
The exception to this rule are those pensioners whose ZUS has increased their calculated pension to the amount of the minimum benefit , which is PLN 1,780.96 gross from March 2024. If their income from work exceeds the amount of the increase to the minimum pension, the benefit for the given period will be paid in a lower amount, i.e. without a subsidy to the minimum.
The restrictions also do not apply to certain pensioners. These include people receiving pensions for war invalids, military invalids whose incapacity for work is related to military service, and people receiving survivors' pensions after those entitled to these benefits.
If a person receives a survivors' pension that is more favourable in amount than the established pension due to reaching the general retirement age, they can also earn without restrictions.
