As we read in the police statement, the arrest took place during the preparation of another tanker for transport on a rented property in the Zagnańsk commune, in the Świętokrzyskie province. Police officers, together with officers of the Provincial Environmental Protection Inspectorate from Kielce, searched the property and the headquarters of the company belonging to the 55-year-old man.
"A detailed inspection was carried out and a number of documents were secured, including documents that will allow investigators to determine how long the man had been running the illegal business. The man's 26-year-old son, the 37-year-old tanker driver, and the owner of the property from whom the 55-year-old rented the property where he ran the illegal business were also questioned," reads the release.
Purchase and export
Investigators have established the mechanism of illegal waste management, which is probably the work of a 55-year-old man. "In his business, he purchased used oil from catering establishments throughout the country. These were hotels, bars and restaurants. Then he brought it to a property he rented in the Zagnańsk commune. There, he stored it and initially cleaned it. The last stage of the criminal procedure was to organize transport and prepare documents for the export of environmentally hazardous waste abroad," the Provincial Police Headquarters in Kielce reported.
Investigators now want to determine how long the 55-year-old had been running such an operation and how many transports of used oil he could have organized during that time. In addition to criminal liability, the man could also face an administrative penalty of up to PLN 1 million.
