Iceland eyes 250 new Food Warehouse stores across UK

Iceland is looking to double the number of its Food Warehouse stores, as part of its nationwide expansion plan.

The frozen foods specialist is searching for up to 250 new store sites, double its current 200 sites, with the help of property advisor Mason Partners LLP, which is leading the hunt, The Grocer reported.

Iceland is looking for locations with a minimum footprint of 10,000 sq ft on retail parks in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Crawley, Brighton, Salisbury and Dundee are among the locations specifically named by the retailer, though it is also eyeing locations in suburban areas of London, Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle.

First launched in 2014 as an “experiment”, Food Warehouse stores are usually located in retail parks and are around three times the size of traditional Iceland shops.

In 2021, Iceland boss Richard Walker said Food Warehouse has become the focus of growth and expansion for the frozen food retailer after the sister business outperformed its core supermarkets.
