Supermarket operator Spar has filed a complaint with the European Commission over a special retail sales tax imposed by the Hungarian government. Since the beginning of this year, the tax rate has been increased for the second time since its introduction in 2020. Already in 2022, at the initial tax level, several international retailers in Hungary fell below the break-even point.
