Dynamic tariffs with negative electricity prices for entrepreneurs are getting closer
The moment has come to introduce dynamic tariffs for energy consumption – they will come into force at the end of August 2024. The new settlement system takes into account price variability during the day, which may significantly affect the way it is managed in enterprises that decide on such a model. In the case of companies with renewable energy installations, investing in energy storage may prove helpful.
Dynamic tariffs, in extreme cases, may even lead to negative energy prices. When its quantity in the network exceeds market demand or the self-consumption capabilities of the RES holder, situations may arise in which prices for the energy produced by the installation reach rates below zero. In such cases, it is possible that it will be cheaper to turn off the RES installation than to feed the power it produces into the grid. This is a real dilemma that energy storage can protect against. Their task is to store surplus electricity until the installation does not produce enough electricity to meet demand. Many companies have benefited from the "My electrician" program, which offers subsidies for the purchase of electric cars. The government has allocated PLN 900 million for its implementation, and according to data from June 14, 2024, over PLN 137 million remains to be distributed. The recruitment of applications under the current rules is to last until September 2025.
Companies that invest in expanding their fleet with electric cars often have to increase their contractual power, i.e. the maximum power agreed with the energy company that can be downloaded from the network at a given time. Sometimes it is also necessary to replace the electrical connection or even replace the transformer, which involves additional costs.

In such situations, it is worth remembering that electricity for charging electric vehicles can be taken not only from the network, but also from an installed energy storage facility.
When employees come to the office and want to charge their electric cars during the day, and at the same time there is air conditioning, a server room, lighting or other energy-consuming devices in the facility, the total power consumed by all these receivers and chargers may exceed the connection capacity.
