- The distance of the straw stack from roads, buildings or power lines is strictly regulated by law.
- The law specifies not only the distance, but also the maximum area of the stack and its volume.
What distances should be maintained from the straw stack?
In many regions of the country, the grain harvest is coming to an end and on farms that need straw, baling and transport of straw begins. In general, the most popular method is rolling straw into bales, and the once popular small cubes are becoming less and less common. However, regardless of the method of baling the straw, the regulations regarding the creation of the stack are the same.

A straw stack cannot be built freely. The distances at which it can be formed from specific buildings or devices are specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Internal Affairs of June 7, 2010, and the most important in this context is Art. 42 (sections 1,2,3).
The size of the stack should not exceed 1000 m2 (or volume 5000 m3). At the same time, keep a distance of 30 m from roads and tracks. The same distance should also be maintained from electrical lines. In turn, the distance from the forest should be no less than 100 m. At the same time, remember that the distance of the stack from buildings should be no less than 20 m (if they are made of non-flammable materials) or 30 m if they are made of flammable materials. However, if several stacks are made, a buffer of 30 meters should be maintained between them. At the same time, the distance from the border of the plot should not be less than 10 m. In turn, around the stacks and piles, a 2 m wide area (at a distance of 3 m from the formed pile) should not contain flammable materials.

A stack of straw is of great material value
It is also worth mentioning that burning straw in fields (or other plant residues) is against the law. Similarly, stubble burning cannot be done. However, the guidelines as to what distances to prepare the stack must definitely be taken into account, because it is primarily about safety. The stack itself is also of considerable material value. Depending on the price in a given region, the value of a 120 cm bale can often be at least PLN 50. If there are 500 pieces of straw in the stack, we have about PLN 25,000 "frozen" in the stack.
