There is an opinion that sometimes working together can negatively affect personal relationships. Therefore, specialists from the job search site rabota.by conducted a survey among 510 users to find out how often specialists recommend friends and relatives for work and whether they later regretted it.
More than 70% of respondents said that in their work experience there were situations when they received recommendations from friends or relatives for employment. Approximately the same number of respondents noted that they referred their friends or family members for work.
By the way, 73.6% of specialists said that the recommendations were to the company where they worked at that time. However, regardless of whether the recommendation was related to the place of work of the respondents or concerned another company, 82.0% of survey participants reported that their relatives or friends managed to find a job thanks to it.
For only 17.6% of respondents, this experience turned out to be negative, and they later had to regret that they recommended hiring their friends or relatives.
Often these situations were associated with poor performance of recommended duties, deterioration of personal relationships and the person’s inability to “fit in” to the team, which could cause him to become a cause of conflicts at work.
Among the “Other” options, there were answers such as:
- “the person changed his mind about getting a job, although they were already counting on him”;
- “my friend made a bad impression at the interview”;
- “they treated my friend badly at work, I was unpleasant that I gave a high rating to my employer, and it was not justified in the eyes of my friend”;
- “the man decided to disgrace me in front of management”;
- and etc.
