Seed dressings in rapeseed for autumn 2024
In the new winter rapeseed cultivation season that is just beginning, seed producers and distributors offer four basic products that are used to dress seeds for sowing. The basic option is a fungicide dressing , and here there are two products to choose from:
- Scenic Gold (concentrations: fluopicolide, fluoxastrobin) – is a traditional seed dressing that protects rapeseed against seedling blight, blackleg, blackleg and downy mildew;
- Integral Pro (s.cz.: Bacillus amyloliquefaciens ) – a microbiological dressing, the registration of which includes the protection of rapeseed against blackleg. Additionally, the preparation is to stimulate the natural defense mechanisms of plants, thanks to which the plant is more resistant to damage by the ground beetle and rapeseed flea beetle.
The offer also includes rapeseed seed with the option of extending protection with an additional insecticide dressing. In this case, the choice is to combine one of the fungicide dressings with one of two insecticide dressings :
- Buteo Start (conj.: flupyradifuron) – a dressing registered to protect rapeseed against cabbage stem fly, rapeseed flea beetle and ground flea beetle;
- Lumiposa 625 FS (concentration: cyanotraniliprole) – the registration of this dressing covers the protection of winter rape against the ground beetle, the rapeseed flea beetle, the cabbage stem beetle and the rapeseed cabbage stem beetle.

How long do fungicide treatments work?
As Dr. Hab. Marta Damszel, prof. UMW from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olszytno, pointed out in an interview with the editorial office of farmer.pl:
– It can be assumed that the mortars work for no longer than 4-6 weeks.
The duration of the effect of a given dressing depends on the intensity of vegetation and the pace of plant development. This results from the fact that the concentration of the active substance of the preparation in plant tissues decreases with their growth. At the same time, Prof. Damszel emphasized that plants with good vigour, developing at the right pace, acquire their natural resistance mechanisms with growth.
– The duration of the mortar's action is also determined by the course of weather conditions. During intense rainfall – even a single, heavy rain – some of the active substances will be washed out into the soil solution. If it is too dry, the substance moves poorly both in the plant itself and in the area of the developing root system – explained Prof. Marta Damszel.
In the case of sowing seeds dressed with a microbiological dressing, it should be remembered that bacteria, as living organisms, are more sensitive to the conditions in the soil environment. If they are unfavorable, the duration of the effect of such a preparation can be limited to even a dozen or so days.
– The dressing will protect against pathogens that are rooted or released from crop residues, but additionally, spores will be transferred to the surface of the leaves by the wind and insects. At optimal sowing dates, conditions favourable for intensive rapeseed development, good vigour – the leaf blades develop intensively and constitute a surface to which fungal spores easily stick. Therefore, with prolonged autumn vegetation, one cannot count only on the dressing, but rather treat such extensive leaves with a fungicide during the procedure of regulating the shape or in a separate application – added Prof. Damszel.

How long do insecticide treatments work?
Buying rapeseed seed with the additional option of dressing with an insecticide preparation can be a very profitable investment. Many pests start feeding from the earliest stages of plant development, which is why insecticide protection (using active substances other than acetamiprid or pyrethroids) is very desirable at this stage.
Seed insecticide dressings protect rapeseed until the 3-4 leaf stage. This is not only the result of "diluting" the concentration of the active substance in plant tissues, but the dressing's effect can also change depending on external factors. Later protection against pests is based on foliar treatments.
