Higher retirement age? The ministry does not rule it out

Wyższy wiek emerytalny? Ministerstwo nie wyklucza

Raising the retirement age raises a lot of emotions and will certainly not win fans over any government that decides to take such a step. Meanwhile, the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, does not rule out that such a scenario is possible.

We must create conditions that make it profitable for seniors, especially senior women, to work longer. We need to ensure that longer work always results in a higher pension – she said in the Onet Rano program.

The Ministry is considering raising the retirement age

The minister emphasized that the retirement age of Polish women is the lowest in Europe. She also added that the difference in the age at which men and women can retire is the largest in our country. Moreover, she noted that such a difference appears only in Romanian law.

We must have the courage to say that professional activation is necessary – for everyone, including seniors. Working longer must pay off – unfortunately, this is often not the case today. It is worth considering that seniors who continue to work after reaching retirement age should be paid the outstanding PLN 13 at the time of retirement. – says Pełczyńska.

Digital exclusion is the reason for seniors retiring

The head of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy pointed out that currently one of the most common reasons for seniors leaving the labor market is their poor orientation in the digital world, which increasingly surrounds us. In her opinion, seniors should be provided with tools that will allow them to develop digital competences.

We are launching digital clubs throughout Poland, with particular emphasis on seniors, she said.

The purpose of the clubs is to improve the digital skills of people of retirement age, so that they can work longer without any problems. The clubs are to be managed by local governments and financed from European funds. As Pełczyńska emphasizes, changing the pension system may turn out to be inevitable due to the demographic crisis.

15 years ago there were 4 people of working age per retiree, now there are 2.7. In 2050 it will be only 1.7! If we do nothing, future pensions will be much lower (ZUS forecast is up to 23% of the last salary) – he says.
