Gas price increase from PLN 0.14 to PLN 1.14 per kWh

According to Money.pl, the Dairy Cooperative in Łużna had a two-year contract with PGNIG under the Comfort Gaz line, as part of the "Permanent Savings" offer.

The agreement guaranteed the dairy a rate of PLN 0.14 per kWh. However, at the end of 2024, PGNiG increased the price to PLN 1.14 per kWh.

"The advisor from PGNiG misled us"

Barbara Niemaszyk, president of the cooperative, in an interview with Money.pl stated that the advisor from PGNiG misled the representatives of the cooperative.

– The advisor from PGNiG misled us because he said that these were only forecasts and the price would ultimately be negotiable. However, this did not happen. As a result, we received a bill of PLN 32,000. PLN, while so far we paid approx. PLN 6,000 for the same amount of gas. PLN – she told the Niemaszyk portal.

Lower rates, but only from 2025. "We don't know if we will survive until the end of the year"

The president of the cooperative admits that after media intervention, PGNiG decided to offer lower rates – initially PLN 79 per kWh, and later PLN 20 – unfortunately only from 2025, i.e. after the current contract expires. As the dairy representatives point out, breaking the current contract may result in a fine of up to PLN 20,000. PLN per month.

– It's a good offer, but I couldn't accept it because I'm not sure whether our plant will survive until the end of the year. The worst thing about all this is that gas prices on the stock exchange are low, but not for us. (…) So we have to somehow "overpovert" until December – says Niemaszyk in an interview with Money.pl.

What does PGNiG say about this?

In response, PGNiG points out, among other things, that in the case of futures contracts with a fixed price guarantee, the rate remains unchanged throughout the duration of the contract, regardless of whether market prices fall or rise. Moreover, it emphasizes that the price in concluded contracts with a fixed price guarantee cannot be changed and this applies to every contract, and reducing the price in this type of contract to selected customers would be an unlawful act to the detriment of the company, as well as unequal treatment of customers.
