Heat in Biedronka. There is a complaint

Upał w Biedronce. Jest skarga
  • Employees of the Biedronka store in Kodręba are struggling with the heat.
in the Łódź province. The Inter-Enterprise Organization OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy, which took over the Jeronimo Martins company almost a month ago, intervened with the employer on August 10.
  • – We received a telephone assurance that the problem would be resolved, but this did not happen. During our last visit, the temperature on the sales floor was 31°C, almost 5 degrees higher than the thermometers outside, the organization said.

Employees have desperately begun covering the windows in the storefront with cardboard to lower the temperature in the store. Despite reporting problems with the air conditioning and ventilation for at least a month, no one has responded.

High temperatures in Biedronka

– We notified the Sanitary Inspectorate in Radomsko and the National Labor Inspectorate. The employer should provide safe working conditions, and when the temperature exceeds 30°C it is really dangerous, and it is the obligation to provide air-conditioned rest rooms for the staff. Considering that this is a grocery store, the temperature is definitely too high, e.g. mayonnaise, should be stored at a temperature of up to 24°C, like many other products found in the store – points out Wojciech Jendrusiak, chairman of OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy.

Complaint to PIP and sanitary inspection

The organization filed a complaint about working conditions at Biedronka in Koręba. Below is its content.

"On behalf of the Inter-Enterprise Organization of OPZZ, the Confederation of Labor in
Biedronka, I am reporting a high temperature on the sales floor of the Biedronka store. From what we know, the problem has been going on for up to two months. The store employees reported problems with the air conditioning and ventilation in the store to the headquarters, but to no avail. On August 10, we reported this problem as a trade union. We were promised that the air conditioning would be repaired, but as the employees tell us, they have been promising since July. I am attaching the readings of the thermometer near the counter, between the shelves with food products, like mayonnaise, it is only getting worse. On August 17, we informed the staff that we would notify the sanitary inspection and the National Labor Inspectorate. In response to this information, the employees started hanging cardboard boxes on the store windows to lower the temperature. I personally bought
only water, it was impossible to stand in the store. We ask for intervention in the Biedronka store in Kodręba, ul. Niepodległości 2B."
