Climate change is bound to change the way we eat. The volatility of harvests will lead to greater instability of supply, but HAK is also arguing for an increase in legumes as meat substitutes.

HAK is launching the “Boonus calculator”: this calculator allows consumers to work out not only the CO2 emissions but also the savings they make by eating pulses instead of meat. The canned food manufacturer is hoping to encourage the consumption of legumes in this way. The national survey commissioned by the manufacturer showed that legumes still have a poor image and that 67% of Dutch people do not see them as a substitute for meat.
