ГРАФИКИ | Объем строительства во втором квартале сократился на 4%

According to the data of Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2024, Estonian construction companies built 4% less in Estonia and abroad than in the same period a year earlier. The volume on the local construction market decreased by 3%. Estonian construction companies built a total of 994 million euros, of which 602 million euros worth of buildings and 392 million euros worth of structures. Compared to the second quarter of last year, almost one tenth less buildings were built, and 2% more structures (roads, bridges, ports, main pipelines, communication and power lines, sports grounds, etc.) were built. According to Merike Sinisaar, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, the local construction market was again most affected by the decrease in the volume of building construction. “Fewer new buildings were built, and less repair and reconstruction work was carried out on buildings. The volume of building construction remained practically at the same level as last year (it increased by 1%),” Sinisaar explained. The volume of construction work of Estonian companies operating abroad has decreased by 16% compared to the second quarter of last year. The decrease in volumes there was also mainly due to the construction of buildings. The share of construction work carried out in foreign countries was 7% of the total construction volume, compared to 8% a year earlier. According to the data of the building register, 1,221 permits for the use of new residential premises were issued, which is 42% less than in the second quarter of last year. “Although the largest share of new residential premises is still in apartment buildings, the number of private houses is also increasing with each quarter. Most new residential premises were built this time in the rural municipalities closest to Tallinn,” Sinisaar explained. A building permit was issued for the construction of 1,641 residential premises, which is almost twice as many as in the same period a year earlier. Apartment buildings continued to be the most popular type of housing. 251 non-residential premises with a usable area of 193,500 square meters received permission to operate. Most of the new warehouse, industrial and office buildings were added. Compared to the second quarter of 2023, both the area of non-residential premises permitted for operation and the volume of their construction increased.
