Makro Cash and Carry Polska SA commenced operations on 20 February 1994. The company's sole shareholder is Metro Cash and Carry International Holding BV based in Amsterdam.
Refund of disputed tax
On December 15, 2017, the company received a decision regarding the proceedings
in the corporate income tax for 2011. Based on the decision, the company was obliged to pay the amount of PLN 121,502,206.97.
The company appealed the decision and after going through the entire administrative and legal procedure, the Supreme Administrative Court finally ruled in favor of the company on April 1, 2022. On November 15, 2022, the Director of the Chamber
Administrative and Tax Court in Warsaw issued a decision that repealed the decision of the first instance authority in its entirety and determined the amount of the corporate income tax liability for 2011 at PLN 43,649,998.00. On December 7, 2022, the Company received a refund of the principal amount that was subject to the proceedings in the amount of PLN 114,545,027.61. Then, on December 14, 2022, it also received a refund of interest on this amount in the amount of PLN 51,426,744.00.
Financial results of Makro in Poland
In 2023, the company achieved revenue of PLN 7 billion and a net loss of PLN 107.99 million.
The structure of goods sales did not change significantly, i.e. 95.7% were food products and 4.3% – industrial products.
The current liquidity ratio in 2023 was 1.1, which was a decrease compared to 2022, when the ratio was 1.4. The quick liquidity ratio in 2023 was 0.7, in 2022 it was at a similar level of 0.8.
Revenues in 2022 will amount to PLN 6.79 billion and net profit to PLN 10.41 million.

Cyberattack on Metro AG
The METRO AG Group was hit by a cyberattack on October 17, 2022 and November 23, 2022.
Cyberattacks led to partial failure of IT systems, including the accounting system. The attacks led to a decrease in revenues and an increase in costs during the period covered by the attack.
– It is difficult to estimate the full financial effect, but analyses indicate that as a result of this event, the company's financial results for 2023 deteriorated slightly. The company took appropriate actions and operated without disruption in the following quarters of 2023 – the company says in its financial report.
