From October, sanatoriums will be cheaper

Od października sanatoria będą tańsze

Spa treatment requires that part of the fees be covered by the patients themselves. The costs result from subsidies for food and accommodation and depend on the season and the room standard. The price is decided by the Ministry of Health, and the patient, according to the regulations, cannot pay higher fees than those set by the ministry.

Stays usually last 21 days, so the daily rate should be multiplied by 21. The rates vary and depend on the season and room standard.

The most expensive stay is in a single room with a private bathroom in the spring and summer season (from May 1 to September 30). It is less expensive to stay in the autumn-winter season (from October 1 to April 30), in multi-person rooms, without full sanitary and hygienic facilities.

What won't the National Health Fund pay for?

In the case of a standard, fully paid stay in a sanatorium, the National Health Fund does not cover:

  • travel costs to the sanatorium and back,
  • guardian's stay,
  • food and accommodation during outpatient treatment
  • additional fees, such as resort fees or costs of natural medicine and rehabilitation treatments unrelated to the disease that is the reason for the referral to the health resort.

If the patient's condition is likely to significantly improve, they can count on funding from the National Health Fund. To do so, you must obtain a referral and qualify for sanatorium treatment. Who can count on support?

  • working, at risk of total or partial incapacity for work;
  • entitled to sickness benefit or rehabilitation benefit after termination of the right to sickness or accident insurance;
  • receiving a periodic pension due to incapacity for work, who also promises to regain the ability to work after rehabilitation.

If the patient is qualified by the insurer for reimbursement of the stay, he or she can count on coverage of all rehabilitation costs – treatment, accommodation and nutrition. Such a patient may be reimbursed for the costs of travel to the rehabilitation center from his/her place of residence and back – up to the price of the ticket of the cheapest means of public transport.

Employees involved in the production of products containing asbestos, children and adolescents up to 18 years of age (or up to 26 years of age if they are continuing education), and children with significant disabilities can also count on a completely free stay in the sanatorium. regardless of age.

From October 1, 2024, with the start of the autumn-winter season, new rates for food and accommodation will apply and will be valid until May 2025. It is worth noting that they are much lower than the rates in the summer season.
