Wheat harvest estimated at only 26 million tons
Given the poor outlook, prices should be higher, but the world market does not allow this. Farmers in France expect huge losses due to excessive moisture. Excessive rainfall in France has severely impacted winter crops and negatively impacted spring crop prospects. Now the French producer organization AGPB talks about a total of 10 million tons of losses in the wheat harvest. French farmers would only harvest 26 million tons of it this year instead of 36 million tons.
Financial losses for farmers
This affects producers' incomes. According to the organization, the damage suffered by farmers growing grain this year may exceed EUR 1.6 billion. In this regard, French Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau traveled to the Eure-et-Loire region at the invitation of the AGPB. There, at the beginning of the week, he learned about the destruction in the fields, but also about the difficult situation of farmers. Farmers are demanding immediate and long-term help from their minister.
