Galec financial report for 2023
Recall that in June, the chain announced that 36 E.Leclerc stores in Poland achieved a 4.6% increase in turnover (like for like). It was explained that this was the result of implementing a new brand development strategy on the Polish market, which has been implemented since last year.
As indicated by the representatives of the E.Leclerc network, the beginning of 2024 was marked by a clear slowdown in inflation, which influenced the intensification of commercial communication activities of brands planning to increase market share. There was a price battle and, above all, an escalation of communication, which made it difficult to read performance indicators.
Closures of several E.Leclerc stores in Poland
Four branches of the chain that recorded financial losses were closed down (Konin, Kędzierzyn Koźle, Poznań, Malbork).
Since 2023, E.Leclerc Polska has been conducting a thorough analysis of its stores.
– Closing four stores is a difficult decision due to the consequences for the affected employee teams, but it allows for the efficient use of resources and ensuring the future development of the brand, which will require international-level logistics tools and an efficient supermarket format. It is worth noting that the impact of these 4 locations on turnover is limited, and the actions taken towards the remaining stores will compensate for the loss of volume resulting from the closures – said Jean-Philippe Magre, president of E.Leclerc Polska, recently.
Since 2021, the E.Leclerc brand has been part of the structure of the European purchasing headquarters of Eurelec, which brings together the Rewe Group in Germany, Billa in Austria, Groupement Leclerc in France, Portugal and Poland and the Delhaize-Ahold group in Belgium and the Netherlands.
