As reported by the industry portal La France Agricole, the fire broke out on a farm in May-sur-Èvre, in a 600 m2 warehouse containing half a thousand tons of feed for farm animals. The farm raises free-range cattle, pigs and poultry.
Meanwhile, only 30 firefighters and three fire extinguishing vehicles were dispatched to the operation. It quickly turned out that the forces and resources of the services were too scarce, and problems with water supply quickly appeared. If local farmers had not come to the neighbor's aid with their loaders, tractors and tankers, it would have been a big problem to control the fire.
Together, endangered animals were evacuated and a line was built to pump water from a nearby pond. Farmers brought water in barrels and took away the smoldering feed with machines to extinguish it outside. We also managed to save some feed from the fire and defend the neighboring warehouse.
However, the situation was made more difficult by the fact that the roof of the warehouse, covered with asbestos, was also on fire. Firefighters had to put up a water curtain to prevent the smoke from spreading harmful substances, the firefighters said in a press release. The fire was brought under control, but the losses were enormous. The warehouse and its contents burned completely. The causes of the fire are being determined. Authorities
