According to the EC, France wants to donate a total of EUR 1.5 billion for this purpose. The support will cover new systems supplying the natural gas network.
Tender procedure, contracts for difference
The selection should be made as part of a tender procedure based on the implementation price per megawatt-hour of biomethane offered. According to the EC, subsidized systems must be completed and put into operation within 36 months of awarding the contract. France hopes to increase annual biomethane production by 1.6 terawatt hours.
According to official information, aid is granted in the form of bilateral contracts for difference for a period of 15 years. The state covers the difference between the offered exercise price and the market price of natural gas. According to the EC, if the market price is higher than the base price, the difference will be refunded to the state.
