Following the example of Zara and H&M: IKEA returns to Ukraine

По примеру Zara та H&M: IKEA возвращается в Украину

Back in May, IKEA’s central office decided to reopen stores in Ukraine.

In November 2023, the Swedish chain H&M resumed operations in Ukraine, and in April 2024, the Spanish retailer Inditex. And this was the impetus for the Swedish company IKEA. As four sources told Forbes Ukraine , IKEA is also planning to return. One of the interlocutors replied that the update was expected back in June.

The capital's Blockbuster Mall, where the only IKEA store operated before the start of the full-scale war, refused to comment due to a non-disclosure agreement. However, one of the company’s top managers, who works in the same shopping center as IKEA, said that the store is removing signs from the facade for repairs – tightening the diodes and updating the fasteners.

It is also known that the company preserves the jobs of workers in Ukraine.

Artem Retin , co-founder of the commercial real estate management company Retail.Pro, says that the most productive season for all retail is autumn, the eve of the holidays. This is the optimal time for IKEA to reopen. His opinion is shared by Colliers Ukraine leading expert on retail real estate Igor Zabolotsky , and two of Forbes’ four interlocutors: “From the end of summer or autumn.”

However, Ingka Group, the largest IKEA franchisee, notes: “We need to ensure all operational aspects, including product supply, so that a retail or online store can function. We cannot yet say when this will be.”
