Flag or country name: all stores must now indicate on the price tag where the goods were imported from

Флажок или название страны: теперь все магазины должны указывать на ценнике, откуда ввезен товар

From September 1, price tags in Latvian stores must indicate where a specific product was made. This is a political decision – it is supposed to allow customers to make their choice based on ethical considerations. Traders have criticized the idea, claiming that it will lead to higher prices. The initiative is related to the geopolitical situation, LV Portāls notes. It is supposed that customers, for example, will be able to support Ukraine and refuse to buy goods made in aggressor countries (Russia or Ukraine). Amendments to the Law on Supervision of Food Circulation provide for an additional condition for these countries: the use of flags is prohibited, the name of the country must be indicated in text.
