A pile of straw burst into flames on Friday evening due to a lightning strike – reports the website ratownictwo.opole.pl. About five thousand logs were on fire.
A total of 14 fire brigades were dispatched to extinguish the fire. Such large forces and resources were necessary due to difficult access and lack of sufficient water supply. Meanwhile, the fire threatened silage bales stored nearby, farm buildings and fields.
Firefighters fought the fire until 6 a.m. The remaining property was saved, but much of the straw went up in smoke.
