The case began on July 5 this year. The police officers assisted the employees of the District Veterinary Inspection in collecting the dog and "performing activities related to keeping cattle in extremely inappropriate conditions" – we read in a police statement.
As a result of the proceedings, investigators presented the resident of the Kotlin commune with a charge of cruelty to animals, which, according to the Animal Protection Act, is punishable by imprisonment for up to 3 years. The court may also order the forfeiture of the animals. The man only partially admitted to committing the crime – informs the District Police Headquarters in Jarocin.
A dog on a chain, cattle without water
As reported by the District Police Headquarters, the German Shepherd-type dog was kept on a chain so short that the animal could not hide in the kennel to escape the heat or cold. "The dog's neck was rubbed raw by the chain, which had partially become embedded in the animal's skin. The wound was dirty and infected. As it turned out, the dog also did not have current vaccinations against rabies," we read.
The farm building on the property contained a dozen or so cattle, it had no access to water, and the building was not adapted for breeding. The owner did not change the bedding, which is why the cattle stood in their own excrement. The calves were kept on a leash at all times.
The barn is under control
"As a result of joint actions of the Police and the District Veterinary Inspection, by decision of the veterinarian who arrived at the scene, the dog was immediately taken from the owner and taken to a veterinary clinic. The cattle remained on site, but the man was obliged to improve their living conditions, which will be the subject of an inspection," wrote the District Veterinary Inspectorate in Jarocin.
