Far Easterners prefer noodles, while Siberians prefer broths

Mareven Food Central (Rollton, BIGBON brands) specialists analyzed statistics on instant food sales in Russia in 2023. Despite the decline in overall indicators in the country, Mareven brand instant food sales are growing.

Thus, according to the independent research company NielsenIQ, compared to 2022, in 2023, sales of instant food products (IFP) in pieces decreased by 2.1%. At the same time, quantitative sales of FIP "Mareven" over the same period increased by 2.2%. In 2023, almost half (47.6%) of all IFP products consumed in the country are products of the company's brands.

Over the past year, Russians have bought 3.8% more packages of instant meals (mostly instant mashed potatoes). However, interest in noodles and broths has decreased across the country: by 1.5% and 14.5%, respectively. However, the sales dynamics of Mareven brand products were positive in all categories, and in the instant meals category, the increase was almost 10%.

Currently, the division of the PBP market by category looks like this: the largest share of all PBP sold in Russia is occupied by noodles – 82%, PBP dishes occupy almost 11% of the share, and broths about 7%.

Residents of the Central Federal District buy instant products more than others. Their share in total sales in pieces in the country, according to data for the last year, was almost 27%. Next in the rating are the Volga Federal District and the Siberian Federal District with 18%. The Southern District has almost 12%, the Ural District – 11%, and the Northwestern and Far Eastern Districts close the rating with 9.5% and 4.5%, respectively.

Mashed potatoes, buckwheat and other fast food dishes were especially popular with residents of the Volga Federal District and the Urals. Total sales of these products increased there by 11.2% and 14%, respectively. But sales of BP dishes of the Mareven brands increased by 26.9% for the Urals Federal District and by 19.8% for the Volga Federal District.

One of the biggest drops in sales of ready-made broth is observed in the Southern Federal District, where the climate does not imply a cold and long winter. And the region where brand broths, on the contrary, are gaining popularity is the Siberian Federal District. There, their sales increased by 14.5% in 2023 compared to 2022.
