Drinks manufacturer Capri Sun has been hit by a wave of dissatisfied customers. The paper straws quickly become soft and sometimes can't even get through the drinking hole. Now Capri-Sun is looking for "possible alternatives to paper straws."
Capri-Sun wants plastic to come back
Roland Weening, CEO of Capri-Sun, announced the withdrawal of paper straws from the Swiss market. "The paper straw has good intentions, but in our case it makes no sense at all," he explained. In addition, sales figures did not develop as expected.
A company spokesperson explains that the 200ml drinks sachet will be changed to a recyclable material (PP) in the future. This would mean that the paper straw would have to be disposed of separately. However, if the straw is made of the same material, the drinking bag and the plastic straw can be disposed of together.
This would already be possible in Switzerland, as Capri-Sun also confirms. The country is not part of the EU and is therefore not subject to the ban on plastic straws. However, it will be much more difficult with the EU market.
