Fall of retail trade in Europe and Lithuania (traders.lt)

After the publication of the latest Eurostat information, it became clear that both in Europe and in our country, a fall in the volume of retail trade was recorded.

In June, compared to the previous month, the mentioned indicator fell by 1.7 percent in our country, when it grew by 2.1 percent in May. In the euro zone, retail trade volumes contracted by 0.3 percent, when this indicator was expected to be unchanged, in the European Union it fell by 0.1 percent, after a month before it grew by 0.1 percent.

Among the countries of the union, retail sales in the first month of summer fell the most in Croatia (2.7 percent) and Austria (2.3 percent), while they grew the most in Romania (1.8 percent) and Bulgaria (1.4 percent).

In the euro zone, during the sixth month of this year, sales of food, beverages and tobacco fell by 0.7 percent, non-food products – by 0.1 percent, while fuel rose by 0.5 percent. In the European Union, sales of food, beverages and tobacco contracted by one percent, non-food products did not change, and fuel grew by 0.6 percent.

Meanwhile, in June of this year, compared to the same period a year ago, retail trade in Lithuania grew by 3.1 percent, compared to 5.7 percent a month before. In the European Union, the annual increase slowed down from 0.7 to 0.1 percent, and in the euro zone it has already been recorded that the volume of retail trade fell by 0.3 percent during the comparative period, when the annual increase of 0.5 percent was recorded in May.

According to Eurostat data, among the EU countries, retail sales rose the most in Romania (10.2 percent) and Luxembourg (7.9 percent), while the biggest declines occurred in Belgium (7.3 percent) and Estonia (4.1 percent).

In the Eurozone, sales of food, beverages and tobacco fell by 0.7 percent, non-food products grew by 0.3 percent, and fuel increased by 0.3 percent. In the European Union, sales of food, beverages and tobacco fell by 0.5 percent, non-food products rose by 0.7 percent, and fuel – by 0.5 percent.
