According to the latest Eurostat data, a fall in the volume of industrial activity was recorded both in the euro zone and in the European Union and in our country.
In May, compared to the previous month, industrial production in Lithuania fell by 1.3 percent, while in the euro zone – by 0.6 percent (a 0.9 percent decline was expected), and in the European Union – by 0.8 percent. In the month before, this indicator grew by 3.9 percent, unchanged and increased by 0.5 percent.
During the fifth month of this year, the production of intermediate goods in the common currency area fell by one percent, capital goods – by 1.2 percent, durable consumption fell by 1.8 percent, while energy increased by 0.8 percent, and daily consumption goods – by 1.6 percent. In the European Union, production of intermediate goods also decreased by one percent, capital goods – by 1.2 percent, and durable goods – by 2.1 percent, while energy production increased by 0.4 percent, and consumer goods – by 0.8 percent.
Among the EU countries, according to Eurostat data, industrial production shrank the most in Slovenia (7.3 percent) and Romania – by 6.2 percent, while Ireland (6.7 percent) and Luxembourg (3.9 percent) grew the most.
Compared to May 2023, the volume of industrial activity in Lithuania grew by 4.7 percent (the month before – 2.3 percent), in the euro zone the annual decline decreased from 3.1 to 2.9 percent, and in the European Union it increased from 2.1 to 2.5 percent.
In the common currency area, during the mentioned period, the production of intermediate goods fell by 3.5 percent, capital goods – 6.5 percent, durable goods – 4.2 percent, while energy grew by 0.7 percent, and daily consumer goods – by 2.8 percent. In the EU, the production of intermediate goods shrank by 3.1 percent, capital goods – by 6.3 percent, and durable consumer goods fell by 4.1 percent, while energy production rose by 1.2 percent, and daily consumer goods – by 3.3 percent.
Among the countries of the union, compared to the fifth month of 2023, the industrial activity volume grew the most in Denmark (9.6 percent) and Ireland (8.7 percent), while it shrank the most in Romania (6.9 percent) and Germany (6.6 percent).
