
In December the unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.8% and was higher than the European Union (EU) and Eurozone average, data revealed on Thursday by the statistical bureau Eurostat.According to these data, the highest unemployment level among the EU countries in December was in Spain (10,6%), followed by Greece (9.4%), Finland (8.6%), Sweden (8.5%), France (7.8%), Estonia (7.3%) and Denmark (7%). In Lithuania the unemployment rate in the last month of the year was
6.5%. The lowest unemployment rate in December was recorded in the Czech Republic (2.6%), Followed by Poland and Malta (3 percent each), Germany (3.4 percent) and Netherlands (3.7 percent). In
the EU average, according to seasonally-aligned data, the average unemployment level in December increased to 5,9% compared with 5.8% in November, while in the Eurozone – increased from 6.2% to 6.3%. According to Eurostat data,
in December in the block without work were 12,978 million people, of these 10,830 million unemployed – in the Eurozone countries.
