Decrease in exports of the largest exporters
Spain remains the EU's largest pork exporter, with a market share of almost one third, but the country's exports have declined since the beginning of the year. From January to May 2024, Spanish exporters delivered a total of 0.54 million tons of pork to third countries, 4%. less than in the same period last year. The Netherlands and Denmark rank second and third among the largest supplier countries with 0.28 million tonnes and 0.26 million tonnes of pork respectively. Here, exports decreased by 5%. Germany ranks fourth with just under a tenth of market share. In the first five months of this year, approximately 0.16 million tons of pork was exported from Germany, i.e. 17 percent. more than in the same period last year.
China remains the main recipient
China remains in first place among the recipients, with a share of over a quarter (approx. 0.45 million tons) of total exports from January to May 2024, even though the PRC reduced its pork imports from the EU by almost 14%. compared to the previous year.
