Estonian tourists who flew on vacation are stuck in Turkey

Полетевшие на отдых эстонские туристы застряли в Турции

According to the travel agency, overbooking flight tickets (overbooking) rarely happens, but judging by what happened to our compatriots, sometimes you need to be prepared for it. Seven Estonian residents who went on holiday to Turkey were supposed to return on July 22. However, upon check-in at the airport, it turned out that the plane was overcrowded and they could not fit on it. Tourists will only be able to return to Estonia on July 26. Flight tickets were purchased through Coral Travel Estonia. The company, as assured by Yana Mityakova, head of the Estonian department, is aware of the situation. “We are talking about a system failure at the air carrier, SunExpress. Overbooking is usually the responsibility of the air carrier, which in such a situation must offer passengers alternative flight options or reimburse the client for the cost of new tickets purchased,” she explained. As Mityakova noted, the company organizes package tours that fly on both charter and regular flights. “A booked or chartered flight is a flight that we book; only we and our partners with whom we have an agreement sell seats. It’s essentially impossible to overbook a flight like this,” she said. However, the airline itself sells seats on regular flights. “We do not have information about how often overbooking occurs. In our practice, such cases are extremely, very rare,” she added. The representative of Coral Travel assured that the company will do everything in its power to ensure that tourists return home as soon as possible and receive the compensation they are entitled to from the air carrier.
