Ukraine's largest chain of shopping centers, Epicenter, plans to build 100 MW of gas generation for UAH 2.2 billion and will invest UAH 3 billion in rooftop solar power plants. According to Forbes, Epicenter director Petr Mikhailyshyn announced this in response to a request from the publication to prepare the company for the energy crisis.
This year, Epicenter plans to purchase gas piston power plants with a capacity of 1 to 6 MW to provide electricity to its own production enterprises, and in the future, shopping centers. The total capacity of gas generators will be about 100 MW, and the estimated amount of investment in the project will be about UAH 2.2 billion.
Epicenter will spend $76.5 million or more than UAH 3 billion on solar power plants, which will replace up to 30% of electricity consumption. As part of this project, the company has already equipped six solar power plants with a total capacity of 6.8 MW. During 2024-25, the company plans to equip another 16 shopping centers and a logistics center with solar panels, increasing the total capacity of its own solar power plants by another 25 MW. In the future, Epicenter will install ground-mounted solar power plants to meet the needs of its own production facilities.
At the same time, diesel generators are installed at all network facilities, which automatically turn on when the centralized power supply is turned off and allow shopping centers to continue operating.
