Exports lower than a year earlier
Germany remains Poland's main trading partner. In the first six months of 2024, our exports here reached EUR 46.9 billion and were 7.5% lower than a year ago. In the period I-V 2024, exports to Germany were similarly 7.5% lower than a year ago – reports the National Chamber of Commerce.
Exports to other eurozone countries reached EUR 54.7 billion in the first six months of the year, down 3.9% compared to the same period last year. In the first five months of the year, exports fell 3.7% year-on-year. It is worth noting the sales results to France (EUR 10.9 billion, down 3.7%), Italy (EUR 8.1 billion, down 3.4%), the Netherlands (EUR 7.9 billion, up 0.3%), Spain (EUR 5.1 billion, up 2.2%) and Slovakia (EUR 4.5 billion, down 9.6%).
In the case of EU countries outside the eurozone, exports amounted to EUR 27.1 billion and were -3.7% lower than a year ago (in the period January–May 2024, a decline of -4.1% was recorded here). Sales to the Czech Republic dominate here (EUR 10.7 billion, a decrease of 7.7%).
The export results achieved with highly developed countries outside the EU look better in terms of dynamics for the first six months of 2024 (EUR 21.6 billion – a level higher than a year ago by 4.7%), e.g. to Great Britain (EUR 9.4 billion, an increase of 8.1%) and to the USA (EUR 5.7 billion, an increase of 5.0%).
In the first six months of 2024, goods worth EUR 8.9 billion (an increase of 3.2%) were exported to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, mainly to Ukraine (EUR 5.9 billion, an increase of 12.5%).
Exports to developing countries amounted to EUR 14.8 billion – 0.2% higher than a year ago.
Import after six months of 2024
In the first six months of 2024, total imports amounted to EUR 169.3 billion, which was 2.1% lower than in the same period last year. These data are similar to those forecasted by the Polish Chamber of Commerce. In the period January–May 2024, imports were 2.3% lower than a year ago.
In the first six months of 2024, our imports from Germany reached EUR 33.7 billion and were 2.4% lower than a year ago (in the period January–May 2024, a decrease of 1.7% was recorded).
Imports from other eurozone countries amounted to EUR 39.8 billion and were 2.2% lower than a year ago (in the period I-V 2024, the result was 1.1% lower than a year ago). The result achieved with Italy (EUR 8.2 billion, a decrease of 3.8%), the Netherlands (EUR 6.5 billion, a decrease of 6.6%), France (EUR 6.0 billion, an increase of 3.5%), Spain (EUR 4.0 billion, an increase of 7.3%) is noteworthy.
Imports from EU countries outside the eurozone amounted to EUR 18.6 billion (an increase of 0.2%), including EUR 5.7 billion from the Czech Republic (an increase of 1.6%).
Imports from highly developed countries outside the EU (EUR 20.6 billion, an increase of 4.5%), similarly to exports, were largely created by contacts with the USA (EUR 8.5 billion, an increase of 17.9%).
Goods purchased from Central and Eastern European countries amounted to EUR 3.6 billion (a decrease of 19.0%), while from developing countries EUR 53.0 billion (a decrease of 3.7%) – mainly due to China, our second import partner (EUR 22.7 billion, a decrease of 3.3%).
In the first six months of 2024, a surplus of EUR 4.6 billion was recorded in trade in goods. The results with individual countries or groups of countries were very diverse. In the case of Germany, we achieved a surplus of EUR 13.2 billion. With the other countries of the eurozone, we achieved a surplus of EUR 14.9 billion.
With EU countries outside the eurozone, a surplus of EUR 8.5 billion was achieved. In the case of highly developed countries outside the EU, the surplus generated amounted to EUR 1.0 billion. With the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, we had a surplus in trade of EUR 5.3 billion. On the other hand, we record a deficit in the case of trade with developing countries – EUR 38.2 billion (of course mainly due to the deficit in trade with China).
