Due to the heat in Russia, the demand for ice cream and soft drinks has increased

Из-за жары в России вырос спрос на мороженое и прохладительные напитки

In June, hot weather in the center and south of the country led to an increase in sales of soft drinks and ice cream by 8.5–31.4% compared to last year, the Kommersant newspaper reports.

Kvass became the leader in demand growth due to increased interest in okroshka, while meat dishes turned out to be outsiders. Catering chains are increasing sales through establishments in shopping centers and air-conditioned premises.

In the period from May 27 to June 23, sales of kvass in retail chains in Russia in physical terms increased by 31.4% year-on-year, water by 28.1%, ice cream by 25.1%, iced tea and energy drinks by 18%, carbonated drinks – by 8.5%, calculated by NielsenIQ. Last year, June was cool, while this year temperature records were set in many regions, says Dmitry Vostrikov, executive director of the Rusprodsoyuz association . Drinks and ice cream, he said, are extremely sensitive to weather. Last June, sales of kvass fell by 18.7% year-on-year, NielsenIQ recalls.

Director of Aqua-White, Alexey Voinov , added that the beverage market is recovering after the sanctions: in the first half of the year, the company increased the production of mineral water and soda by 20–25% year on year. The expert attributes the jump in demand for kvass to a new wave of consumer interest after a period of fatigue.

The founder of Teremka, Mikhail Goncharov , notes that this year okroshka, along with soft drinks, is showing an increase in sales. Shokoladnitsa Group and TanukiFamily also recorded an increase in the cold soup category.

Director of Development of the Yakitoria franchise network Alexander Muratov says that sales of lemonades in June-July increased by 14% year-on-year, and the new bubble category exceeded the most optimistic forecasts. One Price Coffee estimates the growth in interest in lemonades over two weeks at 27% year-on-year, in cocktails with ice cream – by 9.9%, and in bottled drinks – by 15.7%.
