“Trends are changing in many areas, including trade. The most noticeable trend is the transition of trade from offline to online, which causes a chain reaction in various aspects of the economy and society,” said DPD Marketing Director in Russia Alexey Merzlyakov .
Recently, there has been an increase in the market share of Russian companies in e-commerce. This is most clearly seen in the jewelry segment, as well as cosmetics and perfumes.
“For example, in the Cosmetics and Perfume industry, DPD is ahead of the market. In the jewelry segment, the volume of shipments in the first half of 2024 has already reached 88% of the total volume of shipments over the past year, which indicates the prospects for the development of this area,” said Alexey Merzlyakov.
According to Yandex Advertising research, the majority of online shoppers are interested not only in purchasing goods, but also in receiving additional services from online stores. For example, 20% of respondents are interested in purchasing goods with express delivery. DPD analytics confirms this trend: delivery by express courier is one of the most popular customer requests. Moreover, they are interested not only in speed, but also in how carefully the company will handle the cargo and in what form it will arrive at the final destination.
As for geography, according to DPD in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus remain among the leading delivery destinations from the CIS countries from the beginning of 2024. Among international routes, the largest share is occupied by delivery to China.
Within Russia, the main recipient regions for parcels via DPD usually remain unchanged and include Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region and Krasnodar region. In addition, DPD notes an increase in shipments to regional cities that are not administrative-territorial centers and cities of federal significance. The average increase in such deliveries is 43% across the country.
