The death of Prof. Stefan Pruszyński was announced on 3.01.2025 by the Institute of Plant Protection State Research Institute in Poznan.
With deep grief and sadness we have received the news of the death of prof. dr. hab. Stefan Pruszyński, dr h.c. The Institute community is deeply moved by such unexpected information. We say farewell to a distinguished scientist and the former director of our Institute, performing this function for 18 years, and also a very friendly and serious colleague, who will always remain in our memory – we read on the website of IOR-PIB.

Prof.’s professional and rich academic development
Prof. Pruszyński graduated from the current Faculty of Agricultural School in Poznan in 1965 . and in that year he joined professionally with the Institute of Plant Protection in Poznan for the next 45 years, until he took retirement. In the year 1975 he obtained the degree of doctor of agricultural sciences, and nine years after – a habilitated doctor. In 1990 he received the title of scientific professor of ordinary science of agricultural science. University of Nature in Poznan honored prof. Pruszyński with title doctor honoris causa in year 2015.
In 1989 year prof. dr hab. Stefan Pruszyński took the function of director of IOR-PIB, which he directed for the following 18 years, until 2007. During his tenure he has devoted to developing the research and scientific activities of the Institute, creating m.Among others, Bank Pathogens Plant and Institute Biology Molecular Laboratory.
Prof. dr hab. Stefan Pruszynski specialized in the field of entomology and the issues related to sustainable agriculture, and also biological and integrated protection of plants – primarily agricultural, but also greenhouse. Prof. Pruszyński was involved in transfer of knowledge in science and practice: has been author of over 140 original scientific publications and over 300 popular science articles and instructions implementation. Has significant participation in the liquidation program of so-called mogulators with determined measures to protect plants.
Prof. dr hab. Stefan Pruszyński actively acted in institutions, contributing to the development of Polish agriculture. He was a member and chairman of the Commission for Registration of Plant Protection measures at theMinisterofAgriculture,hehassatontheCouncils.ScientificCouncilsIUNG,COBORU,IO.He has editedrenownedscientific publications,suchas”JournalofPlantProtection”,”ProgressinPlantProtection”.
ForhisactivityProf.Pruszyńskihasbeenawardedmany times,includingtheSilverCrossofService,theCrownCavalier,OfficerandCommanderOrderofRebirthofPoland.
