From January next year, a deposit system for beverage packaging will come into force, which assumes that residents of municipalities will take them to stores. There, the bottles will be collected by system operators and sent for recycling. "Local government officials are afraid that the most valuable secondary raw materials will disappear from municipal collection, so the management of municipal waste will be more expensive, which will result in an increase in fees for residents," we read in "PB".

The daily reports that representatives of the Ministry of Development and Technology wrote a letter to the Ministry of Climate and Environment in which they appealed to listen to the voice of local governments, and the MPs involved developed a desideratum stating that the money from the unclaimed deposit should go to local governments for waste management. "(Members of Parliament) also ordered legal opinions, from which it can be concluded that, in accordance with the regulations, the unclaimed deposit may go to the ROP and be used, for example, in the system of selective municipal waste collection," writes "PB".
"We have long been calling for the inclusion of support for municipal systems or co-financing ROPs with a deposit fee. The deposit should be transferred to the waste management system and serve, for example, to co-finance investments in the segregation and recycling of secondary raw materials. It should not be returned in full to the organizer of the deposit system. Otherwise, the system operators and it will be profitable for producers to build an ineffective system in which consumers will not collect deposits in stores," Olga Goitowska, director of the municipal management department at the City Hall in Gdańsk, also representing the Union of Polish Metropolises, told the daily.
