Denmark wants to improve the welfare of pigs with a new support program for farmers. The 20 million euros earmarked for this purpose are intended to reduce tail biting in pigs. The program has already been officially approved by the European Commission, under EU state aid rules, reports Agrarheute.
20 million euros are to support Danish pig farmers in implementing appropriate preventive measures. However, they exclude preventive tail docking of piglets. However, subsidies can be obtained for additional monitoring of animals, additional feeding and watering places,
improving the living conditions of pigs.
The support program is to be valid until the end of 2029. The aid is provided in the form of direct subsidies and subsidized services, such as training. Importantly, up to 100% of eligible costs are to be covered.
