In the end of 2024 year Social Democrat Tanel Kijk suggested that the payment for network service for consumers by 50 percent, to mitigate the induced

damage Estlink 2 increase in prices for electricity. Has the government discussed this proposal and how is it reasonable from an economic point of view?

Kike requested, that the state compensate private consumers and businesses at least 50 percent of the payment for network service in the period from January to March 2025 year, to mitigate the impact of the increase in prices in the winter months. This is a proven practical measure, which was also used in the heating season 2021/2022 to better cope with the energycrisiscausedbyRussia.

Thepoliticiannotedthataccording tocalculationsoftheeconomistoftheBankEstonianKasparOja,damageofunderwatercablemaymean,thatEstonianElectricityconsumerswillhavetopayforelectricitybyapproximately105millioneurosmore.
