D.Trump: prezidentas turėtų turėti poveikį FED sprendimams (traders.lt)

Donald Trump believes the president should "have a say" when the US Central Bank makes decisions, Reuters news agency reports.

“I feel like the president should at least say something. I think in my case, I've made a lot of money and I've been very lucky, I have a better sense than most people who would work at the Federal Reserve or be the chairman," said Donald Trump, who is running for re-election in the US presidential election.

Reuters points out that Donald Trump, who wants to be elected for the second time as the president of the United States, has never been so clear about his desire to influence the decisions of the central bank, which, by current standards, would be a violation of his independence.

At the same time, the news agency reminds that in April, The Wall Street Journal wrote about projects prepared by associates of Donald Trump, which aim to weaken the Fed's independence after the victory of the Republican candidate in the elections. While the candidate's camp denied these ideas at the time, his current statement is consistent with their central thesis: Trump should be consulted on a decision on interest rates when he returns to the White House, and the Fed's proposals for bank regulation should be submitted to the administration for consideration.

The head of the Fed and six members of the Board of the American Central Bank are appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate. The current head of the American Federal Reserve Bank, Jerome Powell, who was appointed by Donald Trump, will hold this position until 2026, and he can serve on the board of the central bank until 2028.
