In anticipation of the school year, the Cooper store and restaurant delivery service and the Check Index analytical center of the OFD Platform company analyzed the demand for school supplies and found out how much a school kit will cost in 2024.

Russians prepare their children for the start of the school year in advance. According to Cooper, residents of the country have begun to order writing supplies more often. For example, the demand for diaries and notebooks has increased 6 and 2 times, respectively. Thus, Russians buy squared notebooks 16 times more often than lined notebooks. Russians have also begun to order more folders for papers (by 27%) and notepads (by 12%).
In July 2024, Russians bought pencil cases 3 times more often, erasers – 86%, pens – 35%, felt-tip pens – 20% compared to last year. According to Chek Index, the average price of a stationery set (a ready-made set of school stationery) in June-July was 1,160 rubles, a pencil case – 750 rubles, a school diary – 216 rubles. Interestingly, ballpoint pens are 4 times more popular than gel pens.
For creativity, Russians most often choose watercolors. This summer, demand for it has grown 2.4 times compared to last year. In second place is colored cardboard (1.8 times), in third place is gouache (1.6 times). Thus, watercolors are purchased 75% more often than gouache. In this category, sales of items for fine arts have also increased: albums (+22%), colored paper (+53%), sets of brushes (+40%).
According to Chek Index, the average price of a school backpack in June-July was 2,950 rubles. You can pack a school bag in 2024 for 5,445 rubles. And for first-graders, the costs will additionally include copybooks (84 rubles), plasticine (160 rubles), and colored pencils (120 rubles). Then school supplies will cost 5,809 rubles (+364 rubles).
In the summer of 2024, the largest number of school supplies were purchased by residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Samara, Krasnodar and Novosibirsk. Check Index noted that the average cost of a school uniform in the summer of 2024 was 3,944 rubles. For example, a school blouse (shirt) will cost 990 rubles, children's trousers (skirt) – 1,145 rubles, sneakers – 1,210 rubles, shoes – 1,688 rubles.
