Farmers are afraid of tightening regulations
We initiated the topic of the titular tethered barns with the following questions. What challenges currently face dairy farmers? There is a new European Commission, what do you expect from it, for example in terms of the Green Deal? How do you look at welfare requirements, are you afraid of them becoming more stringent?
The Green Deal has been a nightmare for farmers for a long time. Although the assumptions may have been correct, it turns out as usual, so we see a negative impact of the new EU regulations. The atmosphere among cattle breeders is tense because in recent years they have been increasingly accused of mistreating animals in a negative light, and changing regulations make it difficult to maintain profitability and make investment decisions.

Problematic tether barns
As Piotr Doligalski, vice-president of PFHBiPM, says, farmers are afraid of tightening welfare regulations, especially in the context of tethered barns. In Poland, these constitute more than half of the facilities where cattle are kept, so a possible ban on their use would be a serious problem. At the same time, the farmer emphasizes that due to the planned ban on tying cows, permits for the construction of tethered barns should not be issued for several years now.
