As we already wrote about on farmer.co.uk, the European Commission officially established the European Council for Agriculture and Food (EBAF) on December 5 2024 , adopting the same one of the recommendations contained in the final report of the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture.
Council, which is chaired by Commissioner for food . food and agriculture Christophe Hansen, has the purpose of maintaining a new culture dialogue, trust and participation of many stakeholders among
the chain of supplies and civil society, and also with the Commission.

The European Commission appoints European Council for. Agriculture and Food
Expects you, that that this advisory body will advise the Commission at high level on the review of the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture EU and contribute to work on the vision of agriculture and food, which is to be presented in the first 100 days of the term.
Members will be encouraged to support understanding and exchange experiences between you and pay special attention to the coherence and synergy of Union policies and their coherence with initiatives of the private sector.
The Council is appointed for a period of five years and is expected to meet basically from two to six times in a year. Commissioner Hansen may convene the group for additional meetings, if an urgent advice is needed.
The composition of it will include a maximum of 30 member organizations representing three categories of stakeholders : the agricultural community, other entities of the food supply chain and civil society, including in areas such as environment and climate, animal welfare or consumer issues.
Date for submission of applications to EBAF is 8 January 2025 year.
There is so very little time left, which is why Commissioner Hansen has reminded about this through media social media:

The Commission evaluates all applications and intends to finalize membership in the Council in early
2025 year. The first meeting of the Council will be convened immediately after this deadline.
