Coceral lowers September grain and rapeseed harvest forecast

Coceral obniża wrześniową prognozę zbiorów zbóż i rzepaku

Less grain than in 2023

This would be significantly lower than the previous forecast of 296 million tonnes and less than the 294.2 million tonnes harvested in 2023. Rain and lack of sunshine in spring significantly affected winter crop production in Western Europe, primarily in France and Germany. This contributed to smaller sowings that resulted from excessively wet conditions in autumn 2023. Hot, dry weather during pollination affected spring crop yields in southeastern Europe.

Decrease in wheat, corn and barley production forecast

Wheat production (excluding durum wheat) is now forecast at 126 million tonnes, down from 134.5 million tonnes in the June forecast and down from 140.3 million tonnes last year.

EU27+UK barley production in 2024 is now forecast at 57.6 million tonnes, down from 59.9 million tonnes in the previous forecast but up from the 54.8 million tonnes harvested in 2023.

The preliminary EU27+UK maize harvest is now forecast at 60.3 million tonnes, down from the 64.8 million tonnes forecast in June and below the 2023 harvest of 64.6 million tonnes.

The EU-27+UK rapeseed harvest is forecast at 18.1 million tonnes (19.4 million tonnes in the previous forecast), down from 21.3 million tonnes last year.
