Transport inspectors stopped a tractor unit with two semi-trailers for transporting animals on national road No. 74 in the town of Piórków, Boćkowice commune, Opatów poviat (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship). The vehicle was used to transport 20 cattle.
During the inspection, inspectors found that the animals were tied to fixed elements of the vehicle and trailer by their horns. Despite the merciless heat outside, the driver did not turn on any fan in the trailers. A dead cattle was found in one of the compartments. Further inspection revealed that none of the fans in that part of the trailer were working at all.
Improper performance of duties related to handling animals was found, so the transport was suspended. A veterinary inspection was called to the site. Doctors decided to unload the cattle.
The results of the activities included administrative proceedings initiated against the entrepreneur for violating the Road Transport Act, and the driver was also fined PLN 500 for committing prohibited acts against animals – says the Provincial Road Transport Inspectorate in Kielce in a press release.
The District Veterinary Inspectorate in Opatów ordered an ad hoc inspection of the carrier.
